Maria wint haar 24e titel !
Wat een bizarre finale tussen Maria en Jelena Jankovic. Maria domineerde in de beginfase van de 1e set en kwam op een 4-1 voorsprong. Gelopen koers zou je denken, maar in plaats van naar 5-1 uit te lopen leverde Maria haar opslag in en won de Servische 7 games op rij.
Dat betekende setverlies en een 2-0 achterstand voor Maria in de 2e set.
Daarna nam de Russische het heft weer in handen en de set werd in de tiebreak in het voordeel van Maria beslist.
Maria toonde zich mentaal ijzersterk en gaf Jankovic in de beslissende set geen kans meer (6-3)
Daarmee revancheerde Maria zich van haar matige optreden in de twee voorafgaande US open series van Toronto en Stanford en veroverde haar 24e titel.

Verbeten gevecht om plaats in de finale !
Maria heeft zich ten koste van de nr. 2 van de wereld, Vera Zvonareva geplaast voor de finale van Cincinnati.
De eerste set ging eenvoudig met 2-6 naar Zvonareva,maar Maria kon zich voortreffelijk herstellen en won de volgende twee sets met 6-3.
Zvonareva was niet opgewassen tegen de precies geplaatste groundstrokes van Maria�en moest uiteindelijk het hoofd buigen.
In de finale moet Maria het opnemen tegen Jelena Jankovic.

Maria kan weer lachen !
Na het debacle in Toronto en Stanford heeft Maria nu alle reden tot lachen.Met overtuigende overwinningen op Svetlana Kuznetsova en top tien speelster Samantha Stosur lijkt Maria weer helemaal terug en bereikt hierdoor de halve finale in Cincinnati.
Samantha Stosur valt niet te benijden,de Australische verloor dus ook de negende onderlinge confrontatie van Maria.

"I played a really great match. I was aggressive and didn't give her much time to do things she likes to do when she plays well,
I came in here not having the greatest last few tournaments, so it was really important for me to play a few more matches

Maria through to Cincy 3rd Round .
Maria defeated qualifier Anastasia Rodionova of Australia 6-1 6-3 in 71 minutes to advance to the third round of the Western & Southern Open in Cincinnati.
The first set was over in 25 minutes as Maria won it with a down-the-line forehand winner on set-point.
The second set was closer as Maria dropped her serve twice but managed to compensate by breaking Rodionova's serve three times. Maria took the match when Rodionova hit a shot long.
On Thursday, Maria will play either No.14 seed Svetlana Kuznetsova of Russia or Petra Cetkovska of the Czech Republic.

Cincinnati Draw released.
The draw for Maria's third and final event before the US Open has been released. Maria is playing the Western and Southern Open in Cincinnati and is seeded No.4 and has a bye in the first round. In the second round Maria will play against Anastasia Rodionova of Australia.
The first seed Maria can meet is No.14 seed Svetlana Kuznetsova of Russia in the third round. No.5 seed Li Na of China or Serena Williams are possible opponents in the quarters. No.2 seed Vera Zvonareva of Russia and No.8 seed Marion Bartoli of France round off the draw in the bottom half. World No.1 Caroline Wozniacki of Denmark and third seeded Victoria Azarenka of Belarus are both in the top half of the draw.
Maria has played this event once before and reached the final last year losing to Kim Clijsters of Belgium. Cincinnati was played a week earlier last year so Maria has no points to defend this week.
